Type iconic N-1 jacket was originally designed in the early 1940’s as a three-piece suit consisting of trousers, jacket and helmet. The jacket became an iconic piece of clothing for the military during WWII, Korea and Vietnam. The jacket was adopted by veterans and civilians alike in the post war era. It was a favourite of early motorcycle club riders and was famously worn by Paul Newman and James Dean.
Constructed from a durable cotton "Jungle Cloth", and lined with double-faced alpaca-and-wool pile, this is cold weather jacket that will be a companion through many Winters ahead.
This, the original 'Navy Department' version in navy blue was produced only for a short time, and in very small numbers, before being superseded in 1944 by a 2nd version which was produced in khaki.
