PASSION FRANCE NAVETTE (WITH CORKSCREW) - BONE
NAVETTE is the French word for the shuttle boat, that part which, when weaving the fabrics, must be able to glide unhindered between the warp threads without getting caught or damaging them.
Anyone who has ever had a hole in their pocket knows how to appreciate a knife that slides into their pockets as easily as a NAVETTE and does not cause any damage with its rounded shape.
NAVETTES originate in the 18th century. They were delicate knives for the citizens of the cities they carried with them, but they were never weavers' knives that were literally too poor for such a luxury item. (We remember the battle cry of the weavers during their first major social strike in Lyon in 1831: "Either work in freedom or die in battle!")
With NAVETTE one generally refers to delicate penknives, which can also contain several parts such as the SUJETS. Their manufacture requires manual skill, which is why they were knives for upscale social classes who had achieved a certain level of prosperity and which they do not need for daily work in the field or yard. One opened files with them, cut open the books whose pages had not been trimmed earlier, sharpened feathers and used small corkscrews on them ... but not to open wine bottles, that came up just before 1900, but to uncork the bottles of perfume which you bought closed with cork and sealing wax. NAVETTES are both knives for gentlemen and ladies.
Made in France
Wolfgang and Sabine are German, their knives are French; hence Passion France. Utilising German efficiency and precision, combined with a comprehensive history of French knives, they work with award-winning knife-makers to make beautiful pieces, each specific to a region and time, often with a specific use and culture surrounding it. The plethora of knives they produce in stunning different natural materials serves the French culture of the knife, where it signifies social cohesion, family, and of course; food.
