The Wide Face Shirt is cut with extra deep wide facings, sewn down halfway across the front panels. The large pockets are turned into the hem, the sides have short bartacked splits, and the sleeves are pleated into false cuffs. With Custom pewter buttons hand-cast in England.

This plain weave mid-weight canvas is woven on an ecru cotton warp, with alternating weft stripes of the same ecru yarn and a corresponding yarn that has been bleached white. This creates a delicate horizontal tonal stripe visible on the rinsed cloth as a colour difference, and in dyed garments as a subtle tonal and textural variation.

Rust dyeing is one of the very oldest forms of tinting fabric, and can be traced back to the Egyptian First Dynasty through brownish linen rags found at Tarkhan, dated to between 3482 and 3102 BCE.

Vintage 19th Century workwear would often have iron hardware attached to it, and discoveries of old utilitarian cloths have frequently been left with iron tools or nails, so these items often have yellow or brown rust stains on them.

Tender has its roots in antique workwear and machinery, especially from the Great British Steam Age. On a steam train, the tender was the truck which carried the coal and water to power the locomotive, and was coupled in between the engine and the carriages. They were built incredibly solidly, mostly from riveted cast iron, and had to hold enough fuel to take a train weighing many tons all over Britain.

Polymath William Kroll is from the UK where he hones his various crafts and designs his British-made clothes and accessories. They are manufactured in small factories, ateliers, and homes around the country, exploring new approaches to traditional weaving, making, tanning, and dyeing.

His pieces are truly unique, possessing a rough, everlasting charm that only increases with age and use.
