Garments are usually encountered as finished objects. By the time they reach the rail, much of what brought them into being has disappeared from view: the cloth, the hand, the cut, the time, the small decisions made along the way. In contemporary clothing, production and use can feel very far apart. Cawley Studio brings them close again.

Founded in 2017 by Hannah Cawley and based in South London, Cawley Studio makes clothing with a rare sense of care. The work is produced in the UK through a small network of local makers and factories, using responsibly sourced natural cloth from traditional fabric mills. Each garment is hand cut, and production is kept deliberately small so that design, material and manufacture remain closely connected.
That closeness is felt in the clothes themselves. Across the collections, jackets, shirting, trousers and dresses return season after season, adjusted in proportion, cloth or detail rather than replaced for the sake of novelty. The pieces have a familiar usefulness, often drawing from workwear and traditional dress, but they are never plain copies. A pocket sits just so. A pleat gives movement. A collar, cuff or fastening shifts the feeling of the garment. Cawley brings playfulness to clothes built for longevity, balancing practical shapes and durable materials with unexpected details, distinctive fabrics and a clear sense of character.

This is part of what makes Cawley such a natural fit at PPHH. The garments are beautifully made, but not precious. They are contemporary without being trend-led, ageless without being conservative, elegant without disappearing into the background. They have personality. They are the kind of pieces that can sit easily in a wardrobe for years, while still feeling particular, spirited and a little unexpected.
Many pieces are produced in small runs, with some effectively one-of-one through fabric choice, finish or limited availability. That scale asks for patience, but it also gives the work its appeal. Nothing feels overhandled or overproduced. The pleasure is in the detail, the cloth, the cut, and the sense that someone has stayed with the garment long enough for it to become itself.
