The U.S. Army adopted herringbone twill for combat purposes and gas protection clothing. The Trousers, Herringbone Twill, underwent several minor changes, similar to the jacket. The first pattern was chino trouser style, but the second pattern featured a significantly different appearance, with large flap pockets with gussets on both sides. A large gas flap was added to the inside of the placket, hence the label read "SPECIAL." The buttons, like those on the jacket, are 13-star metal buttons painted black.
